The tobacco war doesn't stop at the Melbourne city limits. About 2.10am on Tuesday 6 October, a car was rammed into the front of a tobacco shop on Jarrah Street in Wodonga, and whoever was inside the car walked out with property from the shop.
The damage to the shopfront was minor. Then, about three hours later and on the other side of the Murray, a ute that looked a lot like the one police were after was burning under the Hume Freeway at North Albury. So was it the getaway car, and who torched it?
