A tobacco shop on St Georges Road in Fitzroy North was destroyed by fire just before 4am on Monday 12 October, and the vegan cafe next door went down with it. Police believe someone broke in and set it alight, and nobody has been arrested.

Locals rang triple zero after hearing explosions. A dark-coloured car was seen leaving. And police say there's nothing to suggest the shop was selling illicit tobacco. So if this one wasn't a black market store, why was it burnt to the ground?
