A gleaming new Chery car dealership in Melbourne’s inner south was deliberately torched in the early hours of Wednesday in what police are treating as a targeted arson attack - the latest violent strike in the city’s escalating underworld wars.
Crews were called to Chery Melbourne City on Plummer Street, Port Melbourne, about 4.50am after flames ripped through the freshly opened showroom. The business, which had only celebrated its grand opening days earlier, belongs to controversial former Married at First Sight contestant and dodgy car dealer James Susler - real name Cengiz - who also runs the neighbouring used-car yards Sell Your Prestige Car and Melbourne Wholesale from the same strip.
